IUI

 A procedure in which a fine catheter (tube) is inserted through the cervix (the natural opening of the uterus) into the uterus (the womb) to deposit a sperm sample directly into the uterus. The purpose of IUI is to achieve fertilization and pregnancy.

How it works?

It is a small piece of flexible plastic shaped like a ‘T’. It prevents pregnancy by stopping sperm from reaching the egg and fertilise .
The chances of getting pregnant is less than 1% if IUC is used properly.

Insertion of IUI:

At any point in the cycle, IUC can be fitted, provided the risk of pregnancy is not present. Insertion of IUC at the time of cesarean section is also safe, more effective and convenient for women.

Who can’t use IUI?

  • If the woman is pregnant
  • PID/purulent cervicitis
  • Immediate post septic abortion
  • Puerperal (post delivery)sepsis
  • In case of heavy/unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Distorted uterine city
  • Pelvic tuberculosis
  • If the woman has cancer of the cervix or uterus
  • If someone is suffering from an STD
  • Some women may have copper allergy so copper contraceptiv will not work for them

Complications:

IUI is not suitable for very small percentage of women as they may develope some complications. It includes:

  • Intense insertion pain
  • PID( Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)
  • Problem pregnancy
  • Coming out of the uterus

Some of the women may experience some discomfort after IUC insertion.

Some symptoms are:

  • Irregular period
  • Cramping and backaches after putting IUC
  • Heavier period or spotting between periods
  • But many women found that IUC had a high rate of satisfaction in
  • terms of birth control. It offers the proper combination of
  • effectiveness, safety and less side effects.
